Blogging

Do you have something to say?
Are you passionate or extremely knowledgeable about a subject? Do you want to share you views with the world? Do you travel and want to share your daily experiences with family and friends?

Blogs are online places where people post their thoughts, images, videos and sounds. They are mini-websites that can be accessed by others who share your passions. There are blogs about health issues, travel experiences, vintage car collecting, politics, learning guitar, if you can imagine it, someone is blogging about it somewhere in cyberspace.

It is all about two-way communication as those that visit your site can post back their thoughts and share their experiences.
Follow me online to www.blogger.com and here you will find a simple FREE 3-step process that will have you blogging in minutes. The resulting blog is hosted on Bloggers site for free as well, so what have you got to lose?

Getting a blog going is easy, but having something interesting to say, is far more difficult.

Merlin Mann is an independent writer who recently spoke on CBC radio’s “Spark” about what makes a good blog. He advocates that your blog should be about something you hold as “a tightly focused obsession”. If you can’t stop thinking about a topic, if you are constantly distracted by it, he feels, you probably need to blog about it.

Tony Hung, a blogger himself, offers his insight stating that blogs need to be “startlingly real and authentic” that “they know what they stand for and who they are”. He too talks of passion and engagement. He belives the best blogs are unique and highlight the writers personality and come from people who have spent many hours thinking about their blog’s ideas.

These gentlemen are talking about professional blogs that draw thousands of fans who share the author’s views and value their opinions.

I like the blogs that are personal and a little weird. I recently visited a blogger’s site who has collected one-minute audio clips from the places he and others have visited and posted them as mini vacations. You will find calls to prayer from the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, ice melting on the great lakes and backyard birds in Ducktown, Tennessee at www.quietamerican.org.
Not all blogs are for public consumption. Many people write a blog while vacationing, providing those at home with a running travelogue featuring writings, photos, music and even short video clips. Family and friends check the site regularly and post to the blog responding to the traveler’s adventures.

Families separated by distance use blogs to correspond uploading family photos and sharing details of their lives in an effort to remain connected and yet allow members to use the site when their busy schedules allow.

As mature people we have a depth of knowledge we have gained through our professions or our leisure activities that many others may want to tap into. I encourage you to share your carpentry skills, your advocacy experiences, your health and wellness advice or the wisdom you’ve gained through experience online and in-turn you will be rewarded with a connection to a community of people who share your enthusiasm and your passion for a cause.
